McIlroy hopeful meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will bring ‘solution’

Rory McIlroy has expressed his satisfaction with the upcoming meeting between a group of PGA Tour players and officials from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), as efforts persist to resolve the ongoing turmoil within the world of golf.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan recently disclosed that he had a meeting with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan in January, and now the Tour’s six player-directors are poised to follow suit.

McIlroy, following a final round of 72 in the Players Championship, voiced his approval of the impending discussions, stating, “I think it should have happened months ago, so I am glad that it’s happening.” He expressed hope that the meeting would facilitate constructive conversations and lead to a resolution.

When asked about his expectations for the meeting with Al-Rumayyan, McIlroy emphasized the importance of ensuring that the right decisions are made. He reflected on his past interactions with Yasir and criticized the representation provided by figures such as Greg Norman, suggesting a disconnect between PIF and LIV.

McIlroy emphasized the significance of PIF’s long-term investment strategy, highlighting the stability and security it offers. He acknowledged that while progress may not be immediate, securing PIF investment could pave the way for resolving existing conflicts within the sport.
