Two of boxing’s biggest names, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, are reportedly in talks for a two-fight deal. Despite their dominance in the heavyweight division over the past decade, these British rivals have yet to face each other in the ring. Both fighters have recently showcased their skills in Saudi Arabia, with Fury narrowly defeating Francis Ngannou last October, while Joshua secured a quick victory over the same opponent.
Fury, the current WBC champion, is set to take on Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 for the undisputed heavyweight title. Although there’s a rematch clause in the contract, promoter Eddie Hearn is optimistic about arranging a showdown between Joshua and the Gypsy King afterward.
The much-anticipated clash between AJ and Fury has been postponed multiple times, with a potential ‘Battle of Britain’ bout almost happening in August 2021 before Deontay Wilder’s arbitration victory. This forced Fury into a third fight with Wilder, delaying the much-awaited showdown between the British boxers.
Now, Hearn has disclosed that Saudi Arabian powerbroker Turki Al-Sheikh is planning two blockbuster fights between AJ and Fury, with one of them possibly taking place in the UK to address concerns about all major fights happening in the Middle East.
Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast, Hearn stated, “Turki Al-Sheikh, an influential figure in sports and entertainment in Saudi Arabia, is the driving force behind these potential matchups. He’s not only a massive fight fan but also envisions staging two Fury versus AJ fights – one in Saudi Arabia and the other at Wembley Stadium.”
