Tiger Woods, a five-time Masters champion, has been listed in the official tournament field, sparking speculation about his potential participation at Augusta National next month.
At 48 years old, Woods has seen limited action in PGA Tour events following his car accident in 2021. Despite this, he boasts an impressive record at the Masters, having competed 25 times and securing victories in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019.
During last year’s tournament, Woods made the cut for the 23rd consecutive time, equalling the record held by Gary Player and Fred Couples. However, he faced discomfort during the third round and ultimately withdrew before the Sunday resumption, citing pain. Subsequently, he underwent surgery on his right ankle to address post-traumatic arthritis.
Woods has made just one PGA Tour appearance this season at the Genesis Invitational, where he had to withdraw due to illness.
Scheduled from April 11-14, this year’s Masters holds the potential for Woods to add to his illustrious tally of five green jackets, putting him one shy of Jack Nicklaus’ record. With 15 major victories under his belt, Woods trails only Nicklaus in this regard, and he shares the top spot with Sam Snead for PGA Tour victories at 82.
