Tiger Woods, amidst preparations for The Masters, showcased a new skill during a practice round on Tuesday at the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club. The five-time Masters champion, with aspirations of claiming another green jacket, faces the challenge of completing a full 72-hole event, something he hasn’t done frequently in the past four years.
During the practice round, the 48-year-old demonstrated his prowess beyond golf when he responded to a loud fan’s request to launch a golf ball towards him after completing his round. The enthusiastic fan, identified as Matt Agonis, seized the moment, shouting to Woods, “Tiger! I’m open!”
Recalling the spontaneous exchange, Agonis explained, “We were just sitting there, and it happened to be quiet. I looked at him and thought, ‘Hey, why not?’ He smirked at me, and that’s when I knew he’d do it.”
Agonis, internally thrilled, anticipated Woods’ response, thinking, “Oh gosh, he’s gonna do it.” True to expectations, Woods showcased his accuracy by hurling the ball towards Agonis with the precision of a quarterback. Although Agonis nearly fumbled, he described feeling temporary discomfort upon impact with his hand. “He missiled it right to me,” Agonis recounted. “There was everyone around me, so I don’t know, but I just jumped up. It hit my hand first, and I didn’t initially catch it; it bounced off like a double catch.”
Reflecting on the encounter, Agonis commended Woods’ throwing ability, noting that he “throws a fast one,” which left his hand throbbing momentarily. In conclusion, Agonis remarked on Woods’ surprising skill, affirming, “Tiger has a good arm.”
