The anticipation for the 2024 Masters was palpable, with legendary golfers Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tom Watson set to tee off from Augusta National at 7:40 AM ET on Thursday. This tournament, being the first Major of the PGA season, always garners significant attention, especially this year with Tiger Woods poised to return and the backdrop of LIV Golf.
However, fans eager to witness golf history unfold may have to exercise patience. Augusta National’s official website announced on Wednesday a delay in all gate openings and the closure of parking due to forecasted inclement weather.
“With the forecasted weather on Thursday, we have decided to delay all gate openings in the morning,” read the statement. “All Masters free parking will be closed until further notice while gate openings are delayed. Further updates will be shared no later than 5 a.m. via Masters.com and social channels.”
The weather outlook for Augusta on Thursday is far from ideal, with The Weather Channel predicting thunderstorms with a 100% chance of rain during the morning hours, coupled with winds of up to 20 miles-per-hour. Such conditions pose significant challenges for even the most seasoned golfers.
Despite the morning’s gloomy forecast, there’s a glimmer of hope as the afternoon progresses. The weather is expected to clear up, offering better conditions for the remainder of the tournament. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are forecasted to be sunny, providing an optimal backdrop for the final three rounds of this prestigious event.
As golf enthusiasts eagerly await the start of the 2024 Masters, they’ll keep a close eye on weather updates, hopeful for a smooth and memorable tournament experience once the skies clear.
