In the aftermath of a heartbreaking defeat to the New York Giants on Monday night, the Green Bay Packers, who had previously enjoyed three consecutive wins, faced significant challenges in all facets of the game. The defense, once a stalwart unit, allowed 17 second-half points, culminating in a disheartening final drive that permitted the Giants to position themselves for a game-winning field goal.
The offensive struggles were evident throughout the night, with quarterback Jordan Love seeming out of sync from the outset. In response to the disappointing loss, the Packers made a pivotal decision to bolster their receiving corps.
Thyrick Pitts, who had undergone a workout with the team the previous week, was officially signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, a move signaling the Packers’ recognition of the need for additional depth at the wide receiver position, especially with the absence of Wicks due to injury.
Pitts, a product of the University of Delaware, showcased remarkable consistency during his college career as a wide receiver. From 2019 to 2022, he amassed three seasons with 600+ yards receiving, proving himself as a reliable target. Despite going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Pitts caught the attention of the Chicago Bears, who signed him but later waived him in early August. Subsequently, the New England Patriots picked him up, and he participated in their training camp, spending some time on the Patriots’ practice squad.
His college achievements, including a standout performance in the shortened 2020 season with 29 receptions for 451 yards and three touchdowns in eight games, underscore his potential to make an impact for the Packers. With a notable final season at Delaware in 2022, Pitts tallied 57 receptions for 631 yards and an impressive 10 touchdowns.
As Packers fans eagerly anticipate the team’s response to the recent challenges, the addition of Thyrick Pitts brings a new dynamic to the receiving corps, sparking conversations and reactions among the loyal fanbase.
