In a recent appearance on Sky Sports’ Golf Podcast, Faldo didn’t hold back. When discussing Rahm’s readiness for the tournament, Faldo highlighted Rahm’s comments about watching Riviera and expressing a desire to compete there. Faldo pointed out Rahm’s recent rounds on resort courses, suggesting they might not have adequately prepared him for the Masters’ challenge. He questioned whether Rahm was sufficiently sharp for the task ahead.
Fast forward to the tournament itself, and Rahm, the defending champion, endured a disappointing weekend, finishing 9-over, a whopping 20 strokes behind the eventual champion, Scottie Scheffler. It was a stark contrast to the previous year when Faldo had adorned Rahm with the coveted Green Jacket, only to see him relinquish it the following year.
Faldo took to social media to repost his pre-tournament comments, perhaps as a reminder of his foresight. Despite Rahm’s struggles, a few LIV golfers managed respectable performances, including Bryson DeChambeau, Cam Smith, and Tyrrell Hatton, who secured top-10 finishes. However, the majority of players from the Saudi-funded circuit faced significant challenges on the Augusta National course.
In the aftermath of the Masters, Faldo’s remarks and the subsequent outcomes raise intriguing questions about the preparation and performance of LIV Golf’s roster on golf’s grandest stage.
