Golf enthusiasts from all corners, including West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and South Carolina, gathered at Parkersburg Country Club for a shot at advancing to the next qualifying stage of the prestigious U.S. Open. The competition was fierce, with participants vying for four coveted spots in the upcoming tournament at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina from June 13-16.
Impressively, the top three finishers of the day all ended with a remarkable score of five under par. Among them were Joseph Kalaskey of South Charleston, representing West Virginia, alongside Jake Sollon from Venetia, Pa., and Charlie Hanson from Richmond, Va.
The fourth spot, however, was secured by Daniel Azallion hailing from Hilton Head Island, S.C. In a gripping three-hole playoff against other skilled contenders who finished the initial 18 holes at 4-under, Azallion emerged victorious. Jackson Woodburn of Scott Depot and Todd Duncan of Daniels showcased their talents in the playoff as well, earning the titles of first and second alternates respectively. Logan Lagodich of Canton, Ohio, also displayed a commendable performance, finishing at 4-under.
Cole Moore, formerly of Marshall University, demonstrated his prowess by finishing one under par after 18 holes. Local favorites Ben Palmer of Parkersburg and Gage Herb of Marietta managed to match par, while Brandon Fivecoait of Vincent wrapped up his round with three over par.
The day’s event at Parkersburg Country Club was a testament to the skill and determination of golfers from diverse backgrounds, each striving for excellence and a chance to compete on one of the sport’s grandest stages.
