Tiger Woods, gearing up for just his third competitive appearance this year at the upcoming PGA Championship, is set to embark on a scouting mission to the Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky, where the tournament will be held. Woods, who has a storied history at Valhalla, clinching one of his four PGA Championship wins there in 2000, is keen to familiarize himself with the course ahead of the event.
Despite missing the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla due to knee surgery, Woods returned for the 2014 PGA Championship, albeit without the same success, missing the cut after two rounds. Now, at 48 years old, he’s determined to perform better this time around and avoid a repeat of his 2014 disappointment.

Woods’ 2024 season has been a mixed bag so far. While he withdrew from the Genesis Invitational in February due to illness, he set a new record for consecutive cuts made at The Masters in April, albeit finishing 60th overall. Encouragingly, it seems he’s been able to put his longstanding right ankle injury issues behind him after undergoing surgery the previous year.
Before the Masters, Woods expressed his intention to maintain a steady playing schedule, aiming for a tournament a month. While that plan hasn’t quite materialized, with major championships now lined up every month until July, Woods’ reported visit to Valhalla indicates his commitment to staying on track with his preparations.
As for his aspirations to win a fifth PGA Championship title and add to his 15 Major victories, Woods remains resolute. During an appearance on the Today Show, he expressed his desire to “ruin” his new Sun Day Red apparel brand’s logo, featuring a tiger with 15 stripes representing his Major wins. His goal? To keep “ruining” the logo by adding more Major victories to his tally.
With Woods’ determination and track record, fans will be eagerly anticipating his performance at the PGA Championship and whether he can indeed add to his illustrious Major haul.
