Scottie Scheffler opted out of the Wells Fargo Championship as he and his wife, Meredith, gear up for the arrival of their first child, just ahead of the second major of the year. The reigning world No. 1 golfer, Scheffler, is penciled in for a pre-tournament interview for the PGA Championship on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. ET. However, as of last Thursday, the Schefflers were eagerly anticipating the birth, according to Golfweek.com.
In contrast to the typical PGA Tour event, which requires players to commit to the next tournament by 5 p.m. on Friday, the PGA Championship allows until the following Tuesday at 5 p.m., with exceptions granted if players communicate their circumstances to the PGA of America.
Scheffler, who clinched victory at last month’s RBC Heritage, his most recent Tour triumph, expressed his readiness to adjust his schedule for the impending arrival of his child. He remarked at last month’s RBC Heritage, “I’ll obviously take a break when the baby comes. But we’ll see. I don’t know what life looks like. But up until when the baby comes, I’m going to play this week and then I’ll go home and basically just wait. We’re due at the end of the month. We’ll see when the baby comes.”
Fresh off his triumph at the Masters and an impressive streak that boasts four wins in his last five starts, Scheffler is the clear frontrunner in betting circles heading into the PGA Championship at Valhalla next week.
