A former employee of Augusta National has admitted to orchestrating a sophisticated theft scheme, involving prized memorabilia from the prestigious Masters golf tournament, including a Green Jacket once worn by the legendary Arnold Palmer.
Richard Globensky, the implicated individual, has pleaded guilty to a scheme amounting to $5 million, which spanned nearly a decade. Prosecutors allege that he pilfered various items from the warehouse, subsequently transporting them to Florida for sale on online platforms.
The stolen loot, amassed between 2009 and 2022, encompassed an array of items ranging from T-shirts and mugs to iconic pieces like the coveted green jackets and vintage tournament tickets dating back to the 1930s.
Globensky, who declined to offer any comments to the press, now faces serious legal repercussions. Charged in a federal court in Chicago with one count of knowingly transporting stolen goods, he potentially faces up to a decade behind bars. However, given the sentencing guidelines, he is likely to serve a term closer to two years.
His defense attorney, Thomas Church, highlighted that the case’s jurisdiction in Chicago was due to the recovery of some stolen goods in the area. The sentencing is slated for late October.
Augusta National, renowned for hosting the prestigious Masters golf tournament annually, was the backdrop for Scottie Scheffler’s recent triumph last month. For many avid fans, the allure of purchasing merchandise not officially available online is an integral aspect of attending the April event.
