On a wet Friday morning at Valhalla Golf Club, 33-year-old Sebastian Soderberg made headlines with the first hole-in-one of the 2024 PGA Championship. The Swede aced the 169-yard eighth hole, delivering a shot he’ll never forget. His iron shot landed a few feet in front of the hole, bounced once, and rolled straight in. This marked the 30th hole-in-one in PGA Championship history since 1983, and the first since Michael Block’s memorable ace at Oak Hill last year.

Soderberg, not a regular on the PGA Tour, has spent the last six years playing on the DP World Tour. This year marks his first appearance at the PGA Championship. Despite never ranking higher than 92nd in the Official World Golf Ranking, his ace has him tied for 70th place at even par, giving him a solid chance to make the cut, as the top 70 players and ties will advance.
With the soft, rainy conditions in Louisville, Kentucky, more hole-in-ones could follow. The eighth hole, in particular, is one to watch throughout the day.
