May 2024 has been a transformative month for professional golfer Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith. Despite making international news due to an incident with local law enforcement, their focus has been on much bigger personal milestones.
Scottie Scheffler, the top-rated golfer in the world, recently experienced an event that will forever change his life and his wife’s future. This significant moment has nothing to do with his driving skills, either on the course or on the road.
Scottie and Meredith’s story began in high school, where they met at Highland Park High School and graduated in 2014. They have been together ever since. In a February 2022 profile in Golf Digest, Meredith described Scottie as having “a super humble ambiance” and being “a really down-to-earth guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously, even with his amazing accomplishments.”
The couple dated throughout college, with Scottie attending the University of Texas and Meredith at Texas A&M. Both graduated in 2018, got engaged in June 2020, and married on December 4, 2020.
Nearly four years after their wedding, Scottie and Meredith welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Bennett, on May 8, 2024. Scottie shared the joyous news on Instagram five days later, posting a photo of himself holding the newborn with the caption, “Welcome to the world little one. Your mom and dad love you so much.”
Scottie had been prepared to miss the 2024 Masters if Meredith went into labor, prioritizing the birth of his child over the tournament. He expressed this sentiment to The Augusta Chronicle, saying, “I’ll be out of here. I think first child wins over many things in my life.” Despite this, Scottie won the 2024 Masters, though he was more excited about becoming a dad. In an interview with Golf Digest, he remarked, “It’s going to be pretty wild. I don’t think it’s hit either of us quite yet but it’s an exciting time for us as a family.”
Amidst these joyous events, Scottie faced legal troubles. On his way to the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, he was arrested due to a prior unrelated incident that resulted in a police zone blocking his route. The charges include second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic. His arraignment has been postponed to June 3.
Despite the challenges, Scottie and Meredith are focusing on their new journey as parents, embracing the exciting changes ahead.
