Details of Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll’s prenup have emerged as the couple prepare to go their separate ways after seven years of marriage.
McIlroy shocked fans by filing for divorce just before the PGA Championship last week, with reports indicating that his marriage to Stoll has reached a breaking point. The couple has reportedly been living separate lives for the past two years due to McIlroy’s frequent absences for tournaments, which strained their relationship.
As a result, they are set to divorce following the recent filing, leading to discussions about asset division. McIlroy and Stoll signed a prenup when they married in 2017, and it is reported that McIlroy has the right to keep their $22 million Florida mansion under the terms of that agreement.
According to The New York Post, the 13,000-square-foot property in Jupiter belongs to McIlroy per the prenup, though he does not intend to stay there. Instead, McIlroy is expected to hand over the keys to Stoll to provide a stable home for their four-year-old daughter, Poppy, while he searches for a new residence.
The divorce filing reportedly calls for shared custody and a parenting plan for Poppy. McIlroy purchased the Jupiter home in the guard-gated Bear’s Club golf community from golf legend Ernie Els for $11 million in 2012. The property is now believed to be worth twice that amount. The residence sits on 2.4 acres of prime land and features nine bedrooms and ten bathrooms. Built in 2002, it includes luxury amenities such as an infinity pool, games room, tennis court, home theater, recording studio, and state-of-the-art gym, as well as a six-car garage.
McIlroy has earned an estimated $87 million in PGA Tour winnings over his career, but Stoll may not be entitled to half of his fortune despite the prenup. Florida, where the couple resides, is not a community property state, meaning a judge will divide marital debt using the state’s equitable distribution laws.
McIlroy’s attorney for the divorce is Thomas Sasser, the same lawyer who represented Tiger Woods during his 2010 divorce from Elin Nordegren. Nordegren walked away with $100 million, a fraction of Woods’ wealth.
McIlroy’s divorce from Stoll coincides with rumors of a potential romance with CBS sports journalist Amanda Balionis. Speculation about their relationship intensified after Balionis interviewed McIlroy following his win at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina on Mother’s Day. Their on-camera chemistry has fueled these rumors, especially since Balionis noted his ‘Mother’s Day’ pink attire and mentioned his mother but did not extend the same acknowledgment to Stoll.
