Steve Romines, the attorney representing PGA Tour golfer and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, is set to hold a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to provide an update on a case that has drawn significant attention in the golf community.
Scheffler, 27, was arrested prior to his second-round tee time at the PGA Championship last week. He faces four charges, including one felony, and is due to appear in court on June 3.
CNN correspondent Gabe Cohen reported on Tuesday that there are internal concerns within the Louisville Police Department regarding the severity of the felony charge against Scheffler. Cohen stated, “Behind closed doors, at least some of the top brass within the Louisville Police Department have started voicing some concerns that at least the felony charge – which is by far the most serious of the charges he’s facing – might be excessive here.”
Details about what Romines will discuss at the press conference remain scarce. However, given his previous stance against a settlement, some speculate that he may announce the dropping of the charges.
Cohen added, “The Prosecutor’s office says they ‘will address the Court regarding the case involving defendant Scott Scheffler.’ So the question is… Are they about to drop the charges against Scottie Scheffler?”
Romines’ press conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
