Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world, recently celebrated a significant milestone: becoming a father. In May 2024, he and his wife, Meredith, welcomed their first child, a son named Bennett, amid the PGA Championship Tour. Scheffler expressed his joy and the indescribable feelings of being a first-time dad in April, sharing his excitement with reporters.
Despite his commitment to golf, Scheffler prioritized family, stating he would withdraw from the Master’s Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club if Meredith went into labor. Fortunately, the timing allowed him to compete and secure another win. Scheffler was present for Bennett’s birth on May 8, 2024, before returning to the tournament at Valhalla Golf Club. Reflecting on his new role, Scheffler admitted it was challenging to leave home but described fatherhood as an “amazing feeling” that exceeded his high expectations.
Announcing Bennett’s birth with a heartfelt Instagram post, Scheffler wrote, “Welcome to the world little one. Your mom & dad love you so much,” accompanied by a photo of him cradling his newborn son. The couple had announced their pregnancy after Meredith showcased her baby bump at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which Scheffler won in early March.
Scheffler shared that he and Meredith chose not to know the baby’s sex beforehand, making the moment of Bennett’s birth a special surprise. He vividly recalled the experience of seeing his son for the first time and informing Meredith they had a boy, praising her for her strength during childbirth.
Balancing his career and new fatherhood, Scheffler expressed the difficulty of leaving home for the tour shortly after Bennett’s birth. He conveyed his emotions to his son, saying, “I don’t wanna leave, but I gotta leave.” Winning the Masters in April 2024 added to his joy, and he dedicated his victory to Meredith, promising to return home as soon as possible.
Reflecting on his journey, Scheffler acknowledged how much his life had changed, cherishing the moments at home with his high school sweetheart, their newborn son, and the green jacket from his Masters win. He described this period as a special time in his life, filled with gratitude and reflection on his accomplishments.
