The third men’s Major of the year is set to take place at Pinehurst No.2, marking its return as the host venue for the first time in a decade. This iconic course in North Carolina will be the stage where the world’s top male golfers aim to etch their names into the annals of golfing history. The competition boasts a robust field, featuring the top-60 ranked players globally, alongside numerous other prominent golfers, past Major winners, and qualifiers.
However, some notable players will be absent from this year’s event. Adam Scott, who has participated in every Major since 2002, has not qualified. Patrick Reed, whose streak dates back to 2013, will also be missing, as will Sergio Garcia, who misses his first US Open of this century. Additionally, several LIV golfers and regular PGA Tour players did not qualify through the North American sectionals.
**Adam Scott**
Former World No.1 and 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott is in danger of missing his first Major since the 2001 US Open. Currently ranked 60th in the world, Scott isn’t competing in this week’s Memorial tournament, which could see him slip out of the top-60 and miss the cut for Pinehurst No.2.
**Joaquin Niemann**
Joaquin Niemann will not be in the field for a Major for the first time since the 2020 Masters, having missed qualifying by one stroke at The Bear’s Club in Florida. Although he won’t be at Pinehurst, he has secured a spot in The Open due to his win at the Australian Open last year.
**Sergio Garcia**
Sergio Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion, misses his first US Open since 1999. He narrowly missed out in a playoff during the Dallas qualifier. Garcia also missed the PGA Championship last month and is not yet qualified for The Open.
**Patrick Reed**
Patrick Reed’s run of consecutive Majors ends as he misses the US Open. The 2018 Masters champion did not qualify after withdrawing from the Dallas sectional. This marks the first Major Reed will miss since 2013.
**Louis Oosthuizen**
Louis Oosthuizen did not attempt to qualify for the US Open this year. The 2010 Open Champion, who was runner-up at the US Open in 2015 and 2021, missed The Masters in April and declined a PGA Championship invite due to personal commitments.
**Abraham Ancer**
Abraham Ancer, a teammate of Sergio Garcia in LIV Golf’s Fireballs GC, missed out on qualifying at the Dallas sectional by two strokes. Ancer has not played in a Major this year and is not yet qualified for The Open.
**Talor Gooch**
Talor Gooch, who gained fame with three wins last year in LIV Golf, is ranked outside the top-600 in the world due to LIV’s lack of ranking points. He opted not to attempt qualifying for Pinehurst and has stated he won’t try for The Open either. His only Major appearance in 2024 was at the PGA Championship.
**Harold Varner III**
Harold Varner III, representing LIV Golf, failed to qualify in his home state of North Carolina, missing by four strokes. This will be the first Major he misses since the 2021 US Open.
**Christo Lamprecht**
Christo Lamprecht, the world’s top-ranked male amateur golfer, appears to have forfeited his US Open exemption to turn professional. After a notable amateur career, including winning the 2023 Amateur Championship, Lamprecht attempted to qualify for the US Open in Georgia but fell short by 12 strokes.
As Pinehurst No.2 gears up to host another thrilling Major, the absence of these notable players will undoubtedly be felt. However, the competition remains fierce with many top contenders ready to make their mark.
