Rory McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll, has reportedly chosen not to contest their divorce proceedings. The 36-year-old received the divorce papers at her Florida home on May 13, just days before McIlroy competed in the US PGA Championship. Stoll had until Sunday, June 2, to respond to the divorce petition, adhering to Florida’s 20-day response window. However, the deadline has passed without any response from her, according to the Palm Beach County Clerk’s office, as reported by the Daily Mail. Consequently, the court may grant McIlroy a default divorce.
In the absence of a response from Stoll, the case could proceed without her input, potentially finalizing the end of their seven-year marriage, which McIlroy described as “irretrievably broken,” according to the Express.
This development follows recent images of McIlroy appearing close with CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis. The pair were seen together after a lighthearted interview at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ontario, Canada. Balionis, 38, is also rumored to be going through a divorce, as she was spotted without her wedding ring, The Sun reported. She has been married to football coach Bryan Renner since 2022.
Balionis, a CBS sports presenter for seven years, has frequently covered golf and interviewed McIlroy multiple times. Their latest interaction occurred after McIlroy scored 13 under par and tied for fourth place at the Canadian Open, where his Ryder Cup teammate Bob MacIntyre won the tournament.
Despite the rumors, US Weekly reports that McIlroy and Balionis maintain a professional relationship and are simply close friends.
McIlroy is set to stay in the United States for upcoming PGA Tour events, starting with the Memorial Open at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio from June 6-9. He will then aim to compete in the US Open at Pinehurst from June 13-16.
