Viktor Hovland botches bunker shot, saves par with miraculous Memorial hole out
We often joke that professional golfers are just like us. Of course, the reality is quite different—one glance at our driving skills makes that clear. Still, it’s reassuring to see the world’s best golfers occasionally mess up a shot, allowing us to feel a bit better about our own game. https://x.com/PGATOUR/status/1798768529061134593?t=0EmASDjmuJIpPEFMaIFPMw&s=19 Take World No. 5…

Take World No. 5 Viktor Hovland, for instance. During the first round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, he had a brief “just like us” moment. However, the reason he’s the defending Memorial champion quickly became apparent. The Norwegian golfer managed to turn his “brutal” bunker blunder into a remarkable recovery, reminding us why he’s at the top of his game and we’re not.
On the par-3 12th hole, Hovland found himself precariously positioned at the edge of a sand trap next to the green. His initial shot sent the ball into the air, only to see it roll back even further into the bunker. For a moment, he seemed like any other golfer struggling with a tough lie. But then, showcasing his skill, Hovland followed up with a stunning hole-out, turning what could have been a disaster into a highlight-reel moment.
Adding to the drama, Hovland even gave fans a playful Michael Jordan-style shrug before going on to save par. He then followed this impressive save with two consecutive birdies, ultimately finishing his first round with a three-under 69.
While good golfers may occasionally falter, they invariably find a way to bounce back. For the rest of us, well, we can only dream of such comebacks.
