Three weeks following the thrilling Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour is set for the second of its three “legacy” signature events, this time at Arnold Palmer’s renowned Bay Hill Golf Club. Since its inception in 1979, Bay Hill has consistently tested the skills of the PGA Tour’s finest. Players from around the globe will converge in Orlando, Florida, for a chance at the impressive $20 million purse, with a hefty $3.6 million prize awaiting the winner. Additionally, the tournament offers an increased FedEx Cup points allocation of 700 points to the victor.
The field boasts an impressive lineup, with nine out of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking set to tee off. Among them is Austin Eckroat, fresh off his victory at the Cognizant Classic, earning him a spot in the prestigious event. Joining him are Min Woo Lee and Erik van Rooyen, who secured their places with stellar T2 finishes at PGA National.
Kurt Kitayama returns as the defending champion, facing stiff competition from past winners such as Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day. While Tiger Woods, an eight-time champion at Bay Hill, won’t be competing, viewers can expect to relive some of his memorable moments through broadcast highlights.
Similar to other legacy signature events like the Genesis and Memorial, the Arnold Palmer Invitational will implement a cut, allowing only the low 50 and ties, along with those within 10 shots of the lead, to continue into the weekend. The champion not only walks away with a substantial paycheck but also dons the iconic red cardigan sweater, a unique tradition in the world of golf.
Following the Arnold Palmer Invitational, much of the field will shift their focus northeastward to the Players Championship, the flagship event of the PGA Tour.
With a field of 69 players, including notable names such as Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and defending champion Kurt Kitayama, the Arnold Palmer Invitational promises to deliver another week of thrilling golf action at one of the sport’s most iconic venues.
