49ers Signs a Seasoned Line Breaker

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, linebacker Leonard Floyd is poised to make a significant impact with the San Francisco 49ers.

Floyd’s anticipated move to the 49ers comes bundled with a lucrative two-year contract worth $20 million, with the potential to escalate to $24 million through performance-based incentives. Notably, in his inaugural season with San Francisco, the seasoned linebacker secures a substantial $12 million in guaranteed earnings.

The 31-year-old Floyd showcased his exceptional talent on the gridiron during his stint with the Buffalo Bills last season, amassing an impressive 32 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and forcing a fumble.

Beginning his illustrious career with the Chicago Bears, Floyd swiftly carved out a niche for himself before transitioning to the Los Angeles Rams in 2020. Following a fruitful three-season tenure with the Rams, Floyd opted for a one-year deal with the Bills, further solidifying his reputation as a defensive stalwart.

Now, Floyd reunites with his former position coach from the Bears, Brandon Staley, who presently serves as the 49ers’ assistant head coach. Staley assumed the role following his departure from the Los Angeles Chargers in December.

Floyd’s addition bolsters an already formidable 49ers defense. In the 2023 season, the team showcased its defensive prowess by conceding an average of just 303.9 yards per game, securing an eighth-place ranking in the league. Despite their commendable defensive performance, the 49ers faced disappointment in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, prompting a quest for enhancement in critical areas.
