Amanda Balionis, CBS Sports’ popular golf reporter, is back in action at the Traveler’s Championship after enjoying a relaxing week off while Rory McIlroy battled for the U.S. Open title at Pinehurst. McIlroy, after facing another major setback, has decided to step back from golf to regroup.
While McIlroy was competing against Bryson DeChambeau for the U.S. Open crown, Balionis was enjoying a vacation in the Hamptons with friends. She shared snapshots of her beach retreat on social media, featuring sunny days, time with friends, and some relaxing moments away from the hectic golf scene.
Balionis celebrated her birthday on Thursday and shared her return to the Traveler’s Championship with her followers on Instagram. She posted about her participation in the Fan Zone with her initiative, Puppies and Golf. Balionis expressed her gratitude to the Travelers Championship for supporting their cause and introducing the local shelter, Protectors of Animals. She shared her delight in meeting Flowers, a lovable three-year-old dog ready for a new home.
Speculation about Balionis and McIlroy arose when rumors circulated about his brief separation from his wife, Erica Stoll. Despite the buzz, McIlroy and Stoll have reportedly reconciled, putting any talk of divorce to rest. Balionis, fresh from her vacation, posted a photo wearing a denim jacket with the phrase, “It’s all good, baby, baby,” perhaps hinting at the end of the drama.
Golf fans noticed the chemistry between Balionis and McIlroy during her interview with him after his Wells Fargo Championship win. This, combined with Balionis being seen without her wedding ring, fueled rumors of a potential romance. However, these rumors were quickly dispelled as McIlroy and Stoll worked through their issues.
At the U.S. Open, McIlroy’s performance faltered, allowing DeChambeau to claim his second major title. Following the tournament, McIlroy headed to Florida for some time away from golf. He announced he would be taking a hiatus to focus on his family, skipping the Traveler’s Championship and planning to return for The Open at Royal Troon next month.
In a heartfelt social media post, McIlroy reflected on his difficult day at the U.S. Open and congratulated DeChambeau, calling him a worthy champion and a great asset to professional golf. He acknowledged the challenges of his career and expressed his commitment to returning stronger for future tournaments.
