After failing to make the cut at The Open Championship at Royal Troon, Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll jetted off to Portugal for some much-needed downtime. In a similar vein, CBS golf correspondent Amanda Balionis took a break, opting for the picturesque mountains of Wyoming while rival broadcaster NBC held the rights to golf’s final major of the year. While McIlroy and Stoll basked in the Portuguese sun and enjoyed the stunning views of Almancil, Balionis reveled in the peace and natural beauty of Wyoming’s wild landscapes.
Both getaways offered a perfect respite from the demands of the professional golf world. McIlroy had a tough time at Royal Troon, carding a seven-over 78 in the opening round, his worst score in a major since 2019. He openly expressed his eagerness for a holiday just 22 holes into the championship, saying, “Yeah, I think once I made the 8 on the fourth hole, that was it – 22 holes into the event and I’m thinking about where I’m going to go on vacation next week.”
The Mirror shared exclusive shots of McIlroy and Stoll as they stepped off McIlroy’s private plane in Faro, Portugal. Stoll was notably photographed with her wedding ring on, signifying their rekindled romance after a brief separation. The couple had initiated divorce proceedings in May but reversed their decision in June, scrapping the divorce papers shortly before the U.S. Open.
Balionis delighted her 319,000 Instagram followers with a scenic snapshot of her holiday in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. One striking image showed her in an equestrian setting, leaning against a fence with a beaming smile. Dressed in a red frock with a belted waist and brown cowboy boots, Balionis looked every inch the modern cowgirl. Adding to the rustic charm was a horse-riding man in the background, clad in a white shirt and cowboy hat.
The Bob Ross-esque mountains and clear blue sky offered a tranquil backdrop, making the scene look like it was straight from a Western postcard. But Balionis didn’t stop there. She posted a selfie in front of the famous wooden sign at Yellowstone National Park and another picture saw her posing next to a cozy log cabin nestled among lush, green meadows, encapsulating the serene spirit of her adventure.
Her Wyoming escapade and fashion choices received high praise from her Instagram followers and caught the eye of NYC fashion label Ramy Brook, renowned for its signature dresses. Although it wasn’t confirmed if her dress was from the brand, it was assumed due to design similarities.
