In a heated WNBA matchup on Sunday, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever secured a 91-83 victory over the Chicago Sky, but not without enduring some rough treatment. Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the recent WNBA Draft, faced physical play from the Sky, with Angel Reese and her teammates delivering several hard fouls.
Earlier this month, Clark was infamously bodychecked by Sky’s Chennedy Carter during an inbounds play, sparking controversy and allegations of racism. Despite the tension, the Fever had won that encounter 71-70. In this latest game, Clark excelled again, contributing 23 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.
In the first quarter, Dana Evans hooked Clark’s arm to impede her drive to the basket and then dismissed her complaints with a smirk. Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy criticized the Sky on social media for their aggressive tactics, posting clips and calling out their conduct.
The physicality peaked in the third quarter when Reese struck Clark on the head with her forearm as Clark went for a basket. Portnoy and others on social media expressed outrage, calling for suspensions and criticizing the Sky’s behavior.
Despite the rough play, Clark remained focused, helping her team maintain the lead. Aliyah Boston added a significant contribution with her third consecutive double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith also performed well, adding 17 and 15 points respectively.
The Sky were led by Marina Mabrey with 22 points and Carter with 18, while Reese contributed 11 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. The game remained close, but Indiana took the lead in the third quarter with a crucial three-pointer from Clark and never looked back, securing their second win over the Sky this season.
