Anthony Joshua is on the verge of reclaiming his place at the pinnacle of heavyweight boxing—and he’s savoring every moment.
Over the past 17 months, Joshua has achieved four consecutive victories, each more impressive than the last, putting him back in contention for a world title. His record now stands at 28-3 with 25 wins by knockout.
This resurgence follows a challenging period marked by two consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in August 2022, which led many to question his future in the sport. Since then, Joshua has bounced back with wins against Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou.
Joshua’s next challenge is a bid to become a three-time heavyweight champion when he faces fellow Brit Daniel Dubois for the IBF title at Wembley Stadium on September 21, in front of 96,000 fans.
Recent victories over Wallin and Ngannou have come under the guidance of new trainer Ben Davison, who previously trained Tyson Fury. The difference has been striking, particularly in Joshua’s quick knockout of Ngannou in March. Despite Ngannou’s impressive performance against Fury, Joshua finished him in just two rounds, demonstrating his improved boxing IQ and strategic approach.
Joshua reflected on the fight, noting, “Ngannou was huge, and if I had relied solely on strength, it could have been a tougher fight. But by improving my boxing IQ, I was able to handle a Goliath swiftly. While Ngannou wasn’t an elite boxer, his challenge to Fury was notable. I managed to knock him out in two rounds, whereas Fury struggled to go the distance with him.”
