Ryder Cup Europe has officially unveiled the qualification process for the 2025 edition set to take place at Bethpage Black in New York next September. Notably, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton have secured a straightforward path to the prestigious event following the confirmation of the qualifying criteria.
The qualification framework, disclosed today by Ryder Cup Europe, marks a significant departure from previous editions. Unlike before, where players were selected from both a European points list and a world points list, this time they will be chosen from a unified list.
Under the new system, European players will accumulate points from major championships and tournaments on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Notably, points cannot be earned through participation in the breakaway LIV Golf League, underscoring the event’s traditional ties and regulations.
Concerns regarding Jon Rahm’s eligibility arose when he joined LIV Golf in December 2023. However, the Spanish star has emphatically stated his commitment to maintaining his membership with the DP World Tour, reassuring his place in Ryder Cup consideration.
Captain Luke Donald retains the authority to make six captain’s picks, providing flexibility in finalizing the team roster. The qualification race officially kicks off at the British Masters at The Belfry later this month, setting the stage for an exciting journey towards the 2025 Ryder Cup in New York.
