Bob MacIntyre achieved his childhood dream by winning the Scottish Open title in a dramatic final day battle against Adam Scott. MacIntyre started the final day at the Renaissance Club just two shots behind the leader, following a stunning third round score of 63 on Saturday. With his father, Dougie—who had famously assisted him to victory at the Canadian Open earlier this season—watching from the sidelines, MacIntyre stayed in contention for the trophy until the very last hole, thanks to a series of birdie shots that kept him close to Scott.
A pivotal moment came on the 16th hole when MacIntyre received a free drop due to standing on a sprinkler in the rough, placing the ball in a more favorable position. Capitalizing on this stroke of luck, he made a superb shot from the rough to claim an eagle, setting him up for the final two holes. This outstanding play made him the first Scot to win his national open since Colin Montgomerie in 1999.
Scott missed a crucial birdie on the 18th hole, giving MacIntyre a chance to secure the victory. Despite the pressure, MacIntyre maintained his composure and sank his final putt to win the title by a single shot, redeeming himself after narrowly losing to Rory McIlroy the previous year.
MacIntyre will compete in The 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon next weekend, where he will again benefit from a home crowd. At the renowned Ayrshire course, current world number one Scottie Scheffler is on track for his seventh TOUR title of the year, and fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods is also expected to participate.
