Jon Rahm experienced a dramatic downfall at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday, and NBC golf commentator Brandel Chamblee didn’t hold back in criticizing his performance.
Rahm appeared poised to win the gold medal, holding a four-stroke lead as he entered the final nine holes. However, his game unraveled, and he ended up shooting a 39, which caused him to fall out of medal contention.
“I’m gonna put that down as one of the biggest collapses, chokes of the year,” Chamblee commented. “Right up there with Rory McIlroy at the U.S. Open.”
Chamblee’s remarks, while harsh, reflect the magnitude of Rahm’s collapse. However, given that Rahm is a prominent figure in LIV Golf—a tour Chamblee has openly criticized—some fans accused Chamblee of being biased.
This isn’t the first time Chamblee has faced such accusations. In June, after Bryson DeChambeau, another LIV golfer, won the U.S. Open, Chamblee was criticized for downplaying DeChambeau’s achievement, attributing some of his success to favorable conditions.
Despite the validity of Chamblee’s comments about Rahm’s performance on Sunday, his perceived anti-LIV stance led many fans to believe his critique was influenced by bias.
