The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing with a significant setback as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. Star wide receiver Skyy Moore has been placed on the injured reserve, sidelining him for the remainder of the regular season.
This unfortunate development transpired after Moore exited Sunday’s Week 15 matchup against the New England Patriots due to a knee issue. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed the severity of the injury, citing swelling in Moore’s left knee.
“As far as injuries go, really Skyy Moore is the one that had to leave the game. He hurt his left knee, just swelled up a little bit,” Reid reported via KMBC.
With only three games left in the regular season, Moore’s potential return hinges on the Chiefs making a deep postseason run. However, even if he does make a comeback, questions loom about his role within the team, given his struggles during the 2023 season.
Moore, a second-round pick in 2022, entered the season with high expectations following a promising rookie year, where he recorded 22 receptions for 250 yards in just three starts. However, his sophomore season has been challenging, managing only 21 receptions for 244 yards and one touchdown in 14 games, despite starting in eight.
The former Western Michigan standout has failed to carve out a significant role in the Chiefs’ offense, and the extended period on the sidelines further complicates his chances of reclaiming a spot in the rotation. As the Chiefs navigate the playoffs, they must find ways to compensate for the absence of this key offensive weapon.
