The Cleveland Browns are reportedly interested in taking a low-risk, high-reward chance on Washington Commanders’ cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr., who has struggled early in his NFL career. Forbes, a former first-round pick in 2023, was a standout in college but has yet to meet expectations in the pros. In his rookie season, he allowed a 61% completion rate and three touchdowns, while also conceding a quarterback rating of 103.0.
The Browns have shown a willingness to gamble on former high draft picks who need a fresh start, most recently signing wide receiver Kadarius Toney. According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, the Browns could be a suitable trade partner for Forbes, especially after he was benched twice during Washington’s Week 1 game.
While Forbes signed a four-year, $15.4 million contract with the Commanders, the franchise’s new head coach, Dan Quinn, has no connection to the player. Quinn, known for his defensive expertise, may prefer to trade Forbes in exchange for another player who fits his system better.
Although it’s early for Washington to give up on a first-rounder, a change of scenery could benefit both Forbes and the Commanders, who might consider cutting ties with the cornerback if the right trade comes along.
