Bryson DeChambeau’s Humorous Claim of Being “Broke” Post-LIV Golf Deal
Golf superstar Bryson DeChambeau, a top contender in the US Open, humorously claimed he was “broke” after signing a lucrative deal with LIV Golf. Despite the substantial contract, reportedly worth around $125 million (£100 million), DeChambeau jokingly remarked on the Country Club Adjacent podcast that his extensive investments had left him nearly penniless.
DeChambeau was one of the most high-profile players to leave the PGA Tour for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour in 2022. He made light of his financial situation, saying, “What’s cool about it though is that I’ve already put it [the money] in places that make sense. Whether it’s my foundation, real estate, building a multi-sport complex, or taking care of my family and content creation business, Regency, I’m again broke.”
The podcast hosts, sharing the clip on their Instagram, playfully teased DeChambeau’s notion of being broke, acknowledging that his statement was made in jest. They posted: “Bryson is all around good s***. Honoured to call you a friend. Although we have slightly different definitions of what it means to be broke.”
When DeChambeau switched to the LIV Golf tour, he expressed that the increased earnings would enable him to invest more in his Dallas community. He said, “For me, it was a personal business decision. I run and operate my golf career as a business and strive to be one of the top players. The additional resources allow me to invest in my local community, support junior golf tours, enhance my foundation, and build a multi-sport complex in Dallas. It also gives me more time to rest and recover, ensuring I’m at my best for tournaments.”
DeChambeau added that the lively atmosphere at LIV Golf’s inaugural event in London played a significant role in his decision to join. “I saw the fun everyone was having, and I wanted to be part of something like that.”
As DeChambeau heads into the final round of the US Open at Pinehurst, holding a three-shot lead, he aims to add to his considerable wealth and success. With rivals like Rory McIlroy in close pursuit, DeChambeau’s focus remains on securing another major victory.
This playful narrative underscores DeChambeau’s unique personality and his continued impact on both the golfing world and his community.
