Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau shared his candid thoughts following his team’s defeat at the LIV Golf Andalucia, which saw Anirban Lahiri lose in a sudden death play-off. The dramatic weekend in Spain ended with Fireballs GC, led by Sergio Garcia, triumphing on Garcia’s home turf after an impressive comeback.
Garcia, who started the final day at even par and seven strokes behind overnight leader Lahiri, managed to erase the deficit and clinch his first LIV Golf individual title. His stellar performance included six birdies and just one bogey, finishing with a five-under 66. This setup a sudden death play-off with Lahiri, who had birdied the 17th to take the lead but missed a crucial putt, ending with a final round of 73.
In the play-off, both Garcia and Lahiri parred the first hole. However, during the team aggregate score playoff, DeChambeau and Paul Casey faltered, allowing Fireballs teammates Abraham Ancer and David Puig to secure pars and win their first team victory of the season.
DeChambeau expressed his frustration, remarking, “It sucks. Losing is never fun. That’s what makes winning so much better. I feel for Baan [Lahiri].” Despite the loss, the Crushers GC widened their lead atop the team leaderboard, while the Fireballs climbed to sixth position.
The thrilling conclusion at Real Club Valderrama marked the first time in LIV Golf’s brief history that a double play-off occurred, and only the second team playoff since LIV Golf Adelaide. Garcia’s victory propelled him to third in the individual rankings, while Lahiri’s top-five finish of the campaign moved him to 16th place.
