Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht provided an assessment of Tampa Bay’s running game following their impressive Week 1 victory, during an appearance on *The Todd Bowles Show* on the Buccaneers Radio Network.
While Licht didn’t join fans in chanting “Buh-Key! Buh-Key! Buh-Key!” in support of rookie Bucky Irving, he did acknowledge the growing excitement around Irving’s explosive running style.
“With Bucky, he’s a very direct runner, quickly reads the defense, and I think fans are picking up on that — we noticed it during training camp,” Licht said. “Rachaad [White], on the other hand, has a smoother, gliding style and excels in the passing game. And we can’t forget Sean Tucker, who had an outstanding preseason. If he had to step in, I think everyone would be impressed.”
Licht also praised the impact of fresh ideas and a new scheme, attributing the early success to an excellent offensive line coach and noted, “Everything is coming together. I don’t think we’ve seen the best yet.”
He highlighted “marked improvement” in players like Cody Mauch and Luke Goedeke as well.
Joe is optimistic about the Bucs’ potential for an improved rushing attack this season. After Week 1, Tampa Bay ranks 24th in the NFL in yards per carry, an encouraging sign compared to finishing last in the league in the previous two seasons.
