Despite the mishap with his drive, he managed to salvage a par on the hole, though he had previously scored an eagle and two birdies in earlier rounds, making a par seem like a minor setback. With his driver no longer usable, he struggled on the 16th hole and made a bogey. On the par-5 17th, he impressively hit two consecutive 3-woods to reach the green but could only manage a par. As he fell two shots behind with five players ahead of him, it appeared his chances of winning were slipping away.
