Carlos Alcaraz Delivers Hilarious Warning to His Coach After Laver Cup Victory in Front of Federer
Carlos Alcaraz had fans laughing with a cheeky message to his long-time coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, after securing his first win at the Laver Cup. With Roger Federer watching from the front row, Alcaraz, the world No. 3, defeated Ben Shelton 6-4, 6-4, earning two crucial points for Team Europe and leveling the score with Team World.
After the match, Alcaraz couldn’t resist teasing Ferrero, hinting that his coaching position might be in danger. Alcaraz thrived on the team atmosphere, receiving support and advice from fellow teammates Grigor Dimitrov and Casper Ruud, as well as captain Bjorn Borg. The Spaniard was quick to point out how much he enjoyed the collective guidance, playfully warning Ferrero: “Juan Carlos, if you’re watching this, be careful with your job because I’ve got great coaches here!”
Alcaraz, making his Laver Cup debut, had a bumpy start, losing a doubles match alongside Alexander Zverev to Shelton and Taylor Fritz on Friday night. But he bounced back with his singles win, fueled by the energy of his teammates and the pressure of playing for more than just himself. “It’s totally different… I’m playing for them, and it makes you feel the pressure a little more because you want to win for the team,” he said, adding that the support from his teammates helped ease his nerves during tough moments.
Having Federer watch from the stands also provided an extra boost. Alcaraz admitted that after losing the doubles, he was hoping the Swiss legend would be there for his singles match, and his wish was granted. “It was great playing in front of him,” Alcaraz said, excited that Federer was witnessing his game up close for the first time. “I hope he enjoyed the doubles, but I think I’m better in singles,” he joked.
The 21-year-old’s confidence and sense of humor shone through as he embraced the unique team environment, all while thriving under the watchful eye of one of the sport’s greatest legends.
