W dwóch turniejach poprzedzających rywalizację w Miami tylko jedna zawodniczka potrafiła powstrzymać Igę Świątek. Najpierw na etapie ćwierćfinału w Dubaju, a następnie w półfinale Indian Wells, pogromczynią drugiej rakiety świata była Mirra Andriejewa.
Z Caroline Garcią nasza zawodniczka mierzyła się całkiem niedawno, bo na początku marca i odniosła wówczas przekonujące zwycięstwo. Oddając rywalce zaledwie dwa gemy, szybko wygrała 6:2, 6:0.
