Louisville police are expected to drop charges against professional golfer Scottie Scheffler following his arrest at the PGA Championship. Scheffler was arrested two weeks ago upon arriving at Valhalla Golf Club for the second round of the tournament. Prior to his arrival, a pedestrian had been killed in an accident, causing a halt in traffic entering the club. While police were allowing golfers to proceed, Scheffler was aggressively stopped when he attempted to drive forward.
A video released by police shows Scheffler explaining to an officer that he was unaware the man instructing him to stop was a police officer. That man, Detective Bryan Gillis, reached inside the car and struck Scheffler to force him to stop. According to a police report and statements from the officer Scheffler spoke to, Gillis was dragged on the ground by the car and was hospitalized with injuries.

Scheffler faced charges of reckless driving, assault of an officer, criminal mischief, and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic. However, Louisville radio host Terry Meiners reported that these charges will be dropped today. An agreement has been reached between Scheffler and the police department to forgo any legal action related to the May 17 arrest.
WAVE News anchor Ward Jolles noted that both parties seek to resolve the matter amicably.
