In a heartwarming twist of fate, Charlie Woods and Jacob Immelman, the sons of golf legends Tiger Woods and Trevor Immelman, were paired together at the Adam Scott Junior Championship, reigniting memories of their fathers’ epic duel at the 2008 Masters. Back then, Trevor Immelman triumphed over Tiger Woods by three strokes to claim his lone Major championship.
Sixteen years later, it was the younger generation’s turn to compete. At The Falls Club of the Palm Beaches in Florida, Charlie Woods held an early advantage after the first round, scoring a +1 with a 73 that included four birdies, two bogeys, and a costly triple bogey. Jacob Immelman, on the other hand, finished the day with a 76, carding three bogeys and a double bogey, placing him T39.
Both teenagers face a significant challenge to catch up with the tournament leader, Hampton Beebe, who shot an impressive seven-under-par 65, opening up a two-shot lead.
Jacob Immelman, 18, is ranked just inside the AJGA’s top 1,000 and has participated in two prior events. He is set to continue his golfing career at Clemson University, having signed with them in November last year.
Charlie Woods, at 15, is relatively new to the AJGA circuit. He finished T32 at the Will Lowery Junior Championship in March, a tournament attended by his father, Tiger. Woods primarily competes on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and the Junior PGA South Florida Tour. In April, he fell short in his attempt to qualify for the US Men’s Open, shooting a nine-over-par 81 at local qualifying.
Tiger Woods recently missed the cut at the PGA Championship but is gearing up for the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2, having accepted a special invitation. This will be his first appearance in the tournament since 2020. As both fathers watch their sons’ budding careers, the echoes of their own historic rivalry at Augusta add a rich layer of legacy to the next generation’s journey in golf.
