Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, recently achieved a significant milestone in his burgeoning golf career. He secured first place in his qualifier for the 2024 US Junior Amateur, held at Eagle Trace Golf Club, with an impressive round of 1-under 71. This victory, which bested 74 other competitors, marks his debut qualification for a USGA tournament and will see him compete at Oakland Hills next month.
As a result of his qualifier win, Charlie has surged to a career-high ranking of 38th in the ‘Class of 2027,’ according to The Universal Golf Rankings (TUGR). This achievement positions him at the highest rank of his junior career across all categories, highlighting his potential as a Division 1 prospect. TUGR celebrated this milestone with a tweet, stating: “Charlie Woods moves up to 38th in the Class of 2027 per TUGR Junior Rankings. After finishing 1st in his qualifier for the US Junior Am, he’s currently at the highest rank of his junior career in every category. Very much a D1 prospect and trending in the right direction.”
Charlie will now set his sights on the US Junior Amateur Championship, a tournament his father, Tiger Woods, famously won three consecutive times from 1991 to 1993. The championship consists of two rounds of stroke play, followed by a match play stage for the top 64 players. The ultimate winner will earn a coveted spot in the 2025 US Open at Oakmont.
Recently, Charlie was called upon to assist his father with his golf swing at the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No. 2, although Tiger unfortunately missed the cut. The 48-year-old Tiger Woods is expected to make his next competitive appearance at the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon in Scotland from July 18-21. There are also discussions that he may begin his PGA Tour Champions debut season in 2026 and potentially use a golf cart in the 2026 US Senior Open if USGA rules are amended in his favor.
In the meantime, Charlie is competing in the 54-hole Press Thornton Future Masters at Dothan Country Club in Alabama. Playing in the 15-18 age category against 232 players, he opened with a 3-over 73 and was 1-over through seven holes in the second round before play was halted. Charlie is set to return to the course on Saturday in an effort to make the cut for the final round.
