Charlie Woods, the 14-year-old golf prodigy and son of Tiger Woods, continues to make waves in the golfing world. His recent performances in the South Florida PGA Tour have been nothing short of extraordinary, marking him as a rising star in junior golf.
On September 30, 2023, Charlie Woods, alongside Benjamin School coach Toby Harbeck, showcased their skills at the Naples Golf and Country Club. The event was part of the South Florida PGA academic events, where both Charlie and Harbeck excelled, boasting impressive scores and taking home multiple trophies.
During the recent South Florida PGA Tour West Coast High School Tournament, held over two days at the Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club in Naples, Charlie’s performance was outstanding. His stellar play helped secure a win for the Buccaneer boys’ golf team, setting them up for a promising season. Luke Wise, another player on the team, finished fourth, while Travis Robertson, a Benjamin senior, contributed significantly before facing disqualification.
This tournament marked Charlie’s second lower-round performance, the first being at the Notah Begay III “Last Chance” Florida National Junior Golf Championship held at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. At this event, Charlie’s exceptional play earned him a spot at the national championship in Coushatta, Louisiana, scheduled for November 4th.
Charlie’s scores of 71 and 66, with the latter round featuring a career-best nine birdies, secured his victory in the 14-15 boys’ junior regional qualifier. His next challenge will be the Florida High School Athletic Association State Golf Championships, beginning November 6th. Both team and individual champions will be crowned by November 15th.
Reflecting on his training at El Campion at the Mission Inn Resort, Charlie expressed confidence and enthusiasm. “This course is ideal for me,” he told tournament leader Ryan Rose. Charlie’s participation in the state championship will be closely watched, especially with the possibility of school rules impacting his father’s involvement as a caddy.
In a recent display of his growing prowess, with Tiger Woods as his caddy, Charlie won the Notah Begay Tournament by a remarkable 18 strokes. His performance drew attention from golfing greats like Justin Leonard, who witnessed Tiger supporting Charlie during the tournament.
As Charlie Woods prepares for his first state championship, the Benjamin School can rely on his talent and experience. With his father’s guidance and his own burgeoning skill, Charlie is set to make a significant impact on the high school golfing scene.
