Daniel Dubois is gearing up for his highly anticipated clash against Anthony Joshua, with heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora insisting there’s no quit left in the 27-year-old. Despite Dubois being accused of giving up in previous losses—most notably against Joe Joyce in 2020 and Oleksandr Usyk in 2023—Chisora believes the young fighter has transformed and will prove his critics wrong on September 21.
Dubois, who has faced scrutiny for taking a knee and failing to beat the referee’s count in those bouts, is now being hailed by Chisora as a “changed” man. Speaking on Talksport, Chisora highlighted Dubois’ recent performances, where he showcased resilience and determination. “Look at his last fight with [Filip] Hrgovic,” Chisora said. “Hrgovic hit him with straight right hands, and he carried on going. He didn’t drop, and he didn’t quit. He carried on going, and he won the fight.”
Since his defeat to Joyce, Dubois has rebounded with four consecutive knockout wins. After his loss to Usyk last August, he secured impressive victories over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, the latter earning him the IBF interim title, which was upgraded to the full championship when Usyk vacated the belt.
Chisora is confident that the fighter who once struggled to get off his knees is long gone. “The guy who boxed Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk, he’s not that guy anymore,” Chisora said. “He quit, but I don’t think the guy we’re looking at now is gonna quit at Wembley. I don’t think so.”
As Dubois prepares to defend his IBF heavyweight title against Joshua at Wembley Stadium, the stakes couldn’t be higher. All eyes will be on the young champion to see if he can stand tall against one of the division’s biggest names.
