Defending champion Nelly Korda has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Aramco Team Series London on the Ladies European Tour, citing a dog bite injury as the reason. Korda, currently the World No. 1 in women’s golf, shared the news on Instagram, revealing that she was bitten by a dog on Saturday in Seattle and now needs time to receive treatment and recover fully.
Korda had been slated to defend her title at the Centurion Club in England, where she claimed victory last year with an impressive four-stroke lead over Charley Hull. This was set to be Korda’s only appearance in England for the year. Despite her absence, Charley Hull will return to the Centurion Club, aiming to secure the title in Korda’s absence.
Nelly Korda has had an extraordinary 2024 season, capturing six victories in her first seven starts, including her second Major title at the Chevron Championship and another win at the Mizuho Americas Open. However, her form has waned in recent weeks, as she missed three consecutive cuts, including a notably challenging performance at the US Women’s Open, where she scored a 10 on the opening round. Her struggles continued with a dramatic exit at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee.
Korda is now focusing on her recovery with hopes of being fit for the fourth women’s Major of the year, the Evian Championship in France, which is scheduled to begin on July 11.
