Aryna Sabalenka, the world number two in women’s tennis, is working hard to emulate a “unique trait” of Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic, according to her coach Anton Dubrov. Sabalenka, a three-time Grand Slam champion, has been making waves in the tennis world alongside rival Iga Swiatek, recently claiming her first US Open title after defeating Jessica Pegula in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. This follows her Australian Open triumph earlier this year.
In a recent interview with Championat, as reported by Tennis 365, Dubrov shed light on how Sabalenka has been trying to adopt Djokovic’s ability to thrive under pressure, especially in hostile environments. Dubrov explained that Djokovic has mastered the art of channeling energy from crowds, even when they are cheering against him, turning it into fuel for success. Sabalenka is striving to do the same.
“Novak often faces similar situations where the crowd is against him, but he knows how to use this energy to his advantage,” Dubrov said. “That’s a special skill, and Aryna is starting to develop it. She’s not quite at Djokovic’s level yet, but she’s getting better. Even when the crowd is against her, like in a Grand Slam final against an American, she’s learning to stay focused and perform at her best.”
