In a strategic move with five games left in the season, the Philadelphia Eagles have made adjustments to their practice squad and 53-man roster to fortify key position groups. On Wednesday, the team announced the re-signing of offensive lineman Brett Toth to its practice squad, while parting ways with former Alabama center Ross Pierschbacher.
This marks Toth’s third stint with the Eagles, initially joining the team in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. After a brief detour with the Arizona Cardinals, Toth returned to Philadelphia nearly a year later via waivers. The 6-foot-6 lineman has displayed versatility, transitioning from tackle to center during his tenure.
Since 2020, Toth has made 17 appearances, starting one game. His recent seven-week stint on the Eagles’ practice squad was interrupted when the Carolina Panthers signed him on Oct. 24. During his brief time with the Panthers, Toth showcased adaptability by starting a game at guard against the Titans in Week 12.
Toth’s return to the Eagles provides valuable depth and flexibility, particularly in the event of injuries upfront. He joins Le’Raven Clark, an offensive tackle, and guard Lecitus Smith on the Eagles’ practice squad.
In a related move on Tuesday, Philadelphia welcomed back wide receiver Greg Ward to its practice squad. This came alongside the release of practice-squad wide receiver Cam Sims and the waiver of linebacker Christian Elliss from the 53-man roster.
Eagles’ offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, renowned as one of the league’s best position coaches, has played a pivotal role in developing young offensive linemen since 2013. This includes Toth, who now has another opportunity to evolve into a quality reserve under Stoutland’s guidance.
