On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles began with three former Alabama wide receivers but ended the day with two. Julio Jones and DeVonta Smith are still on the active roster, while Cam Sims was released from the practice squad less than a week after joining.
Sims had been without a team since October 10, when the New York Giants released him from their practice squad. Despite not playing in the 2023 season, he had a notable 2022 season with the Washington Commanders, recording eight receptions for 89 yards in 17 games.
After signing with the Las Vegas Raiders in March, Sims was released during the preseason roster cuts on August 29. He then joined the Giants on September 4.
A former undrafted rookie, Sims faced adversity early in his career when he suffered a season-ending injury in the opening kickoff of his debut game with Washington in 2018. Despite the setback, he made a strong comeback, accumulating 57 receptions for 804 yards and three touchdowns in 54 games over the next four seasons.
Sims had two notable 100-yard receiving games with Washington, including a 110-yard performance in a loss to the Giants on November 8, 2020, and a seven-reception, 104-yard effort in a playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on January 9, 2021.
