Emma Raducanu will be back in action for the Billie Jean King Cup, as British team captain Anne Keothavong has named her in the squad for the Finals, scheduled from November 13-20. Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, made a notable return to the BJK Cup in April, marking her first appearance in two years. She clinched two hard-fought three-set victories against Caroline Garcia and Clara Burel, leading her team to a 3-1 win in Le Portel and securing their spot in the main event.
Raducanu will again spearhead the British team, which also includes Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Heather Watson, and Olivia Nichols. On November 15, Great Britain will face Germany in the round of 16, with the winner advancing to play defending champion Canada.
After missing the 2022 BJK Cup Finals and not competing in 2023, Raducanu faced significant criticism. However, her recent performances, including a standout showing in France that helped Great Britain overcome the hosts on their preferred clay surface, have renewed confidence. The British team, which reached the semifinals in 2022 without Raducanu, is optimistic about making a deep run and potentially winning the title this year.
British captain Keothavong expressed excitement about the upcoming finals in Malaga, stating, “We are really looking forward to the finals in Malaga after qualifying with our fantastic weekend in France in April. Our team has created excellent memories over the last couple of years and will relish the opportunity in November. There is still a lot of tennis to be played, and changes can be made up until the day before our first match.”
