British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu is expected to return to action before the end of 2024, with her team confirming that the 21-year-old remains on track to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Scheduled to be held in Malaga from November 13-20, this tournament will mark her comeback following a recent injury.
Raducanu suffered a setback about six weeks ago, injuring ligaments in her foot during the WTA 500 event in Seoul. The injury forced her to sit out of competition, and she was even seen wearing a protective boot during a hospital visit last month. Her team, however, has expressed optimism about her recovery, emphasizing her commitment to rejoining the squad. “Emma is training well, and being with the team next week is her focus,” read the statement from Raducanu’s camp, who described her preparations as positive.
While Raducanu had initially hoped to make her return at the WTA 250 tournament in Hong Kong last week, she withdrew shortly before the event, raising concerns about her fitness for the Billie Jean King Cup. The British star quickly reassured fans on X (formerly Twitter) that her foot was healing well, though she needed more time to get fully match-ready. “Hellooo, I’m sorry to say that I will not be able to play in Hong Kong next week. Whilst my foot is making good progress, I need a little more time before I am match fit. I hope to be able to come back and play this tournament in the future! In the meantime, I am doing what I can to be ready for BJKC,” she posted on October 23rd.
Raducanu has been instrumental in past Billie Jean King Cup matches for Great Britain, including in April when she secured two singles victories in the away tie against France. Her impressive performance helped Great Britain claim a decisive win, and Raducanu will now aim to deliver once again as they prepare to face Germany in Malaga.
Having already made a name for herself by winning the US Open in 2021, Raducanu has become a key player for her national team. British fans and teammates alike are hopeful that her efforts in training will pay off and that she will play an essential role at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
