Rory McIlroy’s divorce from Erica Stoll may proceed uncontested, as Stoll missed the deadline to respond to McIlroy’s court filing. Stoll, 36, had 20 calendar days under Florida law to respond to the summons, but according to the Daily Mail, she missed this deadline on Sunday. Consequently, the court may grant McIlroy a default divorce, which would allow the separation to proceed without Stoll’s involvement. In his petition, McIlroy requested shared custody of their daughter and asked the judge to enforce their prenuptial agreement.
The divorce papers were served to Stoll by local police officer Carl Woods, who informed her of the 20-day deadline to file a written response. Woods warned, “You have 20 calendar days after this summons is served on you to file a written response to the attached petition with the clerk of this circuit court. A phone call will not protect you. Your written response, including the case number given above and the names of the parties, must be filed if you want the Court to hear your side of the case. If you do not file your response on time, you may lose the case, and your wages, money, and property may thereafter be taken without further warning from the court.”
Since the divorce filing in May, McIlroy has remained silent about his personal life, with his team instructing reporters at the PGA Championship to avoid questions on the matter. McIlroy’s manager, Sean O’Flaherty, issued a statement confirming the divorce filing and emphasizing McIlroy’s wish to handle the situation respectfully and amicably. McIlroy himself responded to inquiries about his personal well-being at Valhalla Golf Club by stating, “I’m ready to play this week.”
In the aftermath of the divorce news, McIlroy has been linked romantically to CBS Sports broadcaster Amanda Balionis, who interviewed him at the RBC Canadian Open. However, neither McIlroy nor Balionis has commented on these rumors, and reports of their relationship have been downplayed.
