Golf icon Jack Nicklaus recently expressed his support for the LIV Golf league, describing it as “a powerful addition” to the game. Nicklaus, along with other notable figures like Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, acknowledges the impact of LIV on golf.
In an interview on the GOLF Channel’s ‘Golf Central,’ Nicklaus not only endorsed LIV but also backed PGA commissioner Jay Monahan, stating, ‘I’ve always been in full support of Jay. Everything Jay’s done has been in the best interest of golf and the Tour.’
Although the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf have agreed in principle to merge under one umbrella, a finalized deal is pending. The parties initially missed the December 31 deadline, with a new cutoff point in April before The Masters, according to reports.
Despite hopes for Tiger Woods’ return to Augusta National, it appears unlikely for him to equal Nicklaus’ Majors record of 18 wins. Nicklaus expressed empathy, saying, ‘If he remained healthy, I think he would’ve gotten it, but he didn’t remain healthy. I feel bad for him.’
The 83-year-old golf legend believes his Majors record will stand for a while, but he anticipates Woods dominating the senior tour in the future. Nicklaus remarked, ‘I think Tiger will play the senior tour. He’d be able to get in a cart, and he’ll absolutely kill everybody.’
