Borja Sainz is on the verge of completing a move to FC Porto, with the Spanish forward expected to arrive in Portugal within hours.

Talks between Porto and Norwich City were protracted and at times challenging. The Portuguese club’s initial bid, believed to be around £12.75 million, was turned down by the Canaries.

However, an improved offer totalling £14.25 million, including performance-related add-ons, has now been accepted. Norwich are understood to have retained a small sell-on percentage as part of the deal.

Sainz has emerged as a key target for the Dragons as they reshape their squad under new head coach Francesco Farioli.

He found the net 19 times in all competitions last season and was the Championship’s second top scorer with 18 league goals, behind only Leeds United’s Joël Piroe.

The move is expected to be officially confirmed later this week, pending a routine medical. Barring any late complications, Sainz will join fellow Spaniards Gabri Veiga, Samu, and Ángel Alarcón in a new-look Porto squad.

With only a year remaining on his contract at Carrow Road and keen to take the next step in his career, Sainz now looks set to test himself on the European stage with one of Portugal’s most successful clubs.
